-
Docklevellers are used in order to bridge the difference in height and distance between the loading bay and the vehicle floor as efficient as possible. The dockleveller ensures an optimal connection between the lip or sliding and the vehicle bed. During loading and unloading the dockleveller will automatically follow each up and down (suspension) movement and due to the lateral flexibility the dockleveller will follow the ‘tilting’ movements of the vehicle as well.
The length of the dockleveller is determined by the maximum acceptable gradient which is governed by the internal transport and type of load. With a greater difference in levels between the vehicle bed and the building floor the dockleveller must be increased in length to reduce the gradient. For more information see Projectplanning.
You can find the available dimensions of the DLH-NG docklevellers in our webshop.
An EC declaration of conformity (Directive 2006/42/EEC, Annex II, section A) is provided by Dockequipment on the condition that all components, accessories and control boxes are supplied by dockequipment.eu operated by VWNL and that all our products are installed according to our installation instructions, by qualified personnel. The docklevellers are produced and to be used according EN 1398-1:2008:
- Standard capacity 60 kN
- Maximum gradient of the platform 12,5 %
- Minimum contact area per wheel of 150 x 150 mm on the platform
- Maximum driving speed lengthways 7 km/h
- One shift a day

Self supporting sub frame
The DLH docklevellers come standard with a self-supporting sub frame suitable for an open pit with a tail lift opening. No extra horizontal steel construction is required in front of the pit underneath the front beam of the dockleveller. An economic none self-supporting sub frame is optional available for all closed pits.
Please, find below a short description of all the possible pit constructions.
PiT SYSTEM 010
Self-supporting sub frame integrated into the dockleveller
Pit system 010 is a fully “open” construction in which the dockleveller hangs in the pit box (the so called letterbox opening starts immediately beneath the leveller). During production the frame (angular lines) is attached onto the leveller, subsequently the leveller and frame are suspended in a prepared pit box.
The dockleveller is installed in concrete recess by welding on to the existing reinforced concrete pins, which is then back filled with concrete.
Pit system 020
Pit system with a concrete intermediate floor
Pit system 020 is provided with a concrete intermediate floor. The leveller rests on the intermediate floor (which does - in standard situations – not support any force). For this pit system, the frame (angular lines) is positioned on location, after which the leveller is welded to it at a later stage. This type of construction does not allow an approach of the dockleveller from the bottom side.
A contractor makes the pit and supplies and fixes the pit edge angles and steel plate.
Advantages:- Dockleveller comes in low transport height to ensure substantial savings (around 50%) in transport costs can be achieved.
- Extremely quick assembly.
- After installation of the dockleveller immediately available for use
Pit system 030
Pit system with concrete console
Pit system 030 provides the rear side of the leveller with a raised edge, on which the rear hinge rests on the rear console. The forces at the hinged side are divided is this manner. For this pit system, the frame (angular lines) is positioned on location, after which the leveller is welded to it at a later stage.
A contractor makes the pit and supplies and fixes the pit edge angles and steel plate.
Advantages:
- Dockleveller comes in low transport height to ensure substantial savings (around 50%) in transport costs can be achieved.
- Extremely quick assembly.
- After installation of the dockleveller immediately available for use.
Pit system 040Pit box model with lost shuttering
Pit system 040 is fastened to the dockleveller during production and encloses the complete leveller (cladding on all sides). Subsequently the dockleveller is placed onto a temporarily shuttering, after which the pit box is welded to the reinforcement of the concrete. Next, concrete is poured around the leveller and the shuttering is removed. This work has to be carried out by a contractor.
Pit system 040 is only possible for dockleveller with a maximum length of 3 meters.
Advantages:- Short installation time / low costs
Pit system 059
Pit system especially for dockhouse
Pit system 059 is only used in combination with a dockhouse.
The frame in which the dockleveller later will be welded/bolted consists mainly of the assembled dockhouse (side platforms plus HEA beam with adjustable feet) and a pit edge angle at the back. The dockhouse and the back of the frame (pit edge angle) are mounted on site. A contractor makes the provisions such as supply and fixing of the pit edge angles.
Pit system 060Self-supporting sub frame integrated into the dockleveller
Pit system 060 is a fully “open” construction in which the dockleveller hangs in the pit box (the tail lift opening starts immediately beneath the dockleveller). The frame is built from an angle of 80x80x8. The angles are reversed welded when you compare this frame to pit system 010. The bracket for the front beam is welded on a solid 6 mm plate. The fixed toe guard is built from a 4 mm plate. On the rear frame, angles of 90x60x6 are welded to support the dockleveller during transport. The width between the side frames is B+20 mm (for example 2020 mm).
Advantages:
- Pour of concrete is not needed
- Short installation time
- After installation of the dockleveller immediately available for use
Pit system 070
Self-supporting sub frame integrated into the dockleveller, suitable for installation with pre-fabricated concrete elements.
Pit system 070 is based on pit system 060. This type (070) is extended with anchors all around the frame. The front side of the frame will be supported by the pre-fabricated concrete elements. To level the frame, two adjusting screws are placed on the rear frame.
Advantages:
- Short installation time / low costs.
Pit system 075
Self-supporting sub frame integrated into the dockleveller, suitable for installation with pre-fabricated concrete elements.
Pit system 075 is almost similar to 070 with the major difference that this frame has two adjustment screws on each side to level.
Advantages:
-
Short installation time / low costs.
pit system 080
Self-supporting sub frame integrated into the dockleveller with adjustable screws, suitable for installation with pre-fabricated concrete elements.
Pit system 080 is functionally equivalent to pit system 075. However, the frames have been constructed in different ways and with different materials. The side frames of pit system 080 are built in a curved corner of 250x90x6 instead of 80x80x8. The rear frame is constructed in a corner of 80x80x8 and with a bent corner of 170x90x6. The width between the side frames + B is 30mm (for example, 2030 mm).
Advantages:
• Very quick installation and low construction costs. - controls
-
controlbox TYPE ACB001 (BASIc MODEL)
Control box with one-button operation.
Controlbox TYPE ACB010
The ACB010 is a controlbox in which the operation of different dock equipment products, for example the dockleveller and the inflatable dockshelter, can be combined in one controlbox. The ACB010 controlbox works by sequence control, this prevents damage to the dock equipment. The modular concept of the ACB010 controlbox is easily expanded with several options to increase the safety on and around the loading bay. By means of special programming of the controlbox traffic lights, wheelchocks, docklights, photo sensor etc. can be coupled.
The protection class of the ACB001 and ACB 010 is IP 65.
controlbox ACB010 + OPTIon door/leveller security
When using this safeguard the dockleveller operation is released at the time the sectional door has reached a certain opening. When manually operated doors are used the release is generally provided by a photoelectric sensor. As soon as the safeguard is activated the dockleveller will maintain this setting. The latter is of significant importance since the sectional door will be closed in the meantime and the loading and unloading process will be continued / completed at a later stage. Should a manually operated door be used, a photoelectric sensor can be ordered for this safeguard. By choosing this option the controlbox will be specially prepared for this function and a photo sensor will be included. The program can be activated upon installation.
- finish
-
paint black RAL 9005
The standard finish of the dockleveller is painted in the colour RAL 9005 (black).
Primer
Should a heavy burdening of the coating be expected, it is possible to provide an extra coating, a primer. Due to this primer, the top layer will have improved adhesive characteristics to the dockleveller, which has a possible influence on the cover of the painting and the durability. This primer consists of a alkyd resin with durable characteristics
Other RAL colour
It is possible to supply the dockleveller inn any other desired colour. However it is not possible to supply the dock levellers in a metallic RAL colour.
Thermo galvanized finish
Thermo galvanising is
an effective treatment to ensure a durable anti-corrosion protection. Especially in the food industry (meat and fish processing industry) the application of a hot dip galvanized dockleveller is preferred. The life span of a zinc coating can vary between 10 to 50 years, all depending on the atmosphere to which the galvanised steel is exposed.
After the preparation of the steel for galvanisation (e.g. degreasing, rinsing, drying, etc.) it is immersed in a zinc bath, filled with liquid zinc at a temperature between 445°C and 465°C.After the galvanizing process, the dockleveller can still optionally be painted in the standard colour black RAL 9005. In order to let the paint bond to the zinc layer an additional layer of primer is required.
- insulation

Insulation – AIR SEALS (between pit/leveller)
Between the edge of the pit box and the dockleveller top platform a narrow opening of approx. 15 mm exists. This opening allows hot or cold external air to rise, which brings draught. To minimise these effects the dockleveller can, on three sides, be provided with air seals. These rubber seals have a thickness of 1 mm and a sealing height of 5 cm; these seal the opening entirely flexible. Mainly with regard to conditioned areas (heated / cooled) the application of air seals is advised: prevention of draught could result in energy savings and a better working climate.
Insulation – underneath the platform
The steel top platform in itself has a low isolation value. Mainly with regard to conditioned areas (heated / cooled) a significant loss of heated or cooled air could be lost via the steel top platform of the dock leveller. Apart from the use of air seals it is therefore also possible to provide the lower side of the top platform with isolation. The area between the cross beams and the top platform will be completely filled with an isolation layer, which will result in energy savings and an improved working climate.
- lip
-
lip 400mm
The hinged lip of the DLH-NG dockleveller has a length of 400 mm, which indicates that the length increase of the top platform will always be 350 mm as soon as the lip is hinged. The lip is made of steel 12/14 and connected to the dockleveller by means of an open hinged construction, resulting in a quick and easy maintenance (e.g. lubrication). When 100 mm bumpers are used, the hinge has a lip location length of 225 mm on the vehicle bed.
lip 500mm
The dockleveller can be provided with an extended lip of 500mm. In this way the range of the dockleveller is increased. This option is available for the dockleveller DLH-NG and will have advantages when for example thick bumpers are used or extra bumpers on the back of a truck.
Tapered lip on both sides (300X135MM HXw)
The dockleveller lip can be provided with tapered sides. This means that the front side of the lip is narrower. This increases the range of the dockleveller in relation to the width; even smaller vehicles can be loaded and / or unloaded in this manner.
The degree in which the lip is made narrower depends on the length of the gradient. For a dockleveller DLH-NG the length of the gradients is 300 mm, resulting in a narrowing of 135 mm.
In total the front side of the lip is therefore 2 x 135 mm = 270 mm narrower. - durbar plate
-
Top PLatform durbar plate 8/10
The top platform of the dockleveller is supplied with a durbar plate consisting of two layers as a standard. The basis is 6 or 8 mm steel; the so-called tear-drops have a height of 2 mm (6/8 or 8/10 durbar plate). With regard to the 6 mm model (dockleveller DLH-NG) a thicker model of the basis can be selected, which means a burdening of the basis with 2 mm (8/10 durbar plate). For example, in the case of the use of lift trucks with PU tires with less contact area than indicated in EN 1398.
Naturally this will improve the reinforcement of the top platform. The material specification of durbar plate is S235JRG2 / DIN 59220/ T. - noise reduction
-
noise reducing blocks
The dockleveller DLH-NG can be equipped with noise reducing blocks as a standard. The so called silent blocks are designed to absorb the noise resulting from the upper deck being lowered on the lip keepers at the time the loading platform is returned to the lowest position. The cylinder shaped blocks absorb the movement energy and reduce the noise by at least 50%! When the dock leveller is used in residential areas, this option is of significant added value.
- loading/unloading
-
Forklift brackets to platform
A standard dockleveller is equipped with two forklift brackets on top of the upper deck, which fit the forks of the forklift.
That is how the dockleveller can be loaded and unloaded.sleeves for loading in a container
In the case the docklevellers need to be loaded in a container the forklift brackets cannot be used. For container loading we will equip the docklevellers with special rear forklift sleeves under the platform so the docklevellers can be loaded / unloaded into a container.
OPTion "SECURE LOAD" for container loading (inflatable cushions + EXTRA straps)
This option can only be selected in the webshop when the goods are to be loaded into a container and that will be done by us.
In order to ensure that the goods will not be damaged during transport overseas, the load will be fixed with extra straps and inflatable cushions are placed between the cargo and the wall of the container.
